![]() Biological Species What is it? A biological species is a group of organisms that have common ancestors. They also share many characteristics and have the potential to interbreed. Species are made up of one or more populations. Biological species are the basic unit by which you measure biodiversity. Give me an example! Grizzly bears, panda bears, and polar bears represent three different species of bear. They are all generally similar, but since they can not interbreed with each other, they are three separate species.
