    What is it?

Vertebrates are organisms that have a brain and a spinal cord surrounded by a protective set of bones and cartilages called vertebrae.

    Give me an example!

Vertebrates include mammals, birds, the amphibians, the reptiles, and fish, as well as extinct groups like the dinosaurs.
