![]() Sister Chromatids What is it? Sister Chromatids are two exact copies of a chromosome attatched together by a structure called a centromere. Sister chromatids are created during the interphase portion of the cell cycle when each of the chromosomes synthesizes a copy of itself. Give me an example! Let's say you wanted two different people to each build you a bike, but you wanted the bikes to be exactly the same. First, you would write out specific instructions on how to build the bike of your dreams. Second, you would make an exact copy of those instructions. Third, you would make sure each of you bike builders got a copy of the instructions. This way each should build a bike that resembles the other. Think of sister chromatids as the two copies of the instructions! Copyright ©2010, PCS Edventures, Inc. All Rights Reserved. |
