![]() Central Nervous System What is it? The central nervous system in vertebrates consists of the brain and the spinal cord. Give me an example! Every time you use one of your five senses (sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing) you are using your central nervous system. When you touch something, a stimulus is picked up by a nerve in your skin and carried to your brain by way of your central nervous system. Once it gets to your brain, your brain decides what the stimulus means. If it is a stimulus your brain has encountered previously, it will trigger a response. Copyright ©2010, PCS Edventures, Inc.
