    Cantilever

    What is it?

    In general, a cantilever is any lintel supported by a post, such as a flagpole sticking out from a building.

    Give me an example!

    A cantilevered beam is one that is supported on one end but appears to "float" at the other. A flight of steps, a balcony, a cornice, or a canopy may also be built in this way and called cantilevered.
