  • Montgolfier Brothers

    What is it?

The Montgolfier Brothers were the pioneers of hot air balloons. They made the first public demonstration of a model hot-air balloon. In 1783 , they flew a balloon invention carrying a sheep, a duck and a cockerel before King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, to demonstrate that it was possible to survive in the sky.

    Give me an example!

Hot air balloons have come a long way since designed by the Montgolfier Brothers. However, the principles remain the same. Hot air is lighter than cold air. Balloons rise because they weigh less than the air around them. A balloon is pushed up by the cooler air around it.

The Montgolfier brothers are also credited with inventing the hydraulic ram and the calorimeter.
