  • Negative Space

    What is it?

Negative space is space that your eye sees because something is not there.

    Give me an example!

Take a pencil or pen and draw a circle. Now draw a triangle in the middle of the circle and color the triangle in. You have created negative space — the part inside the circle around the triangle that you didn't color in!

Negative space is often used by architects and artists as a counter balance to positive space. Together, the two form a design that makes a unique statement.
