![]() Secondary Growth What is it? Secondary Growth is when plants grow thicker in their roots and the shoots and is different from primary growth. Give me an example! Have you ever seen the growth rings in a tree trunk? These are examples of secondary growth. In fact, all the wood found in some plants is actually a special tissue called secondary xylem. Each ring represents a year of growth. The specialized growths regions that are responsible for secondary growth are called the vacular and cork cambium. Copyright ©2010, PCS Edventures, Inc.
